The Nagpur Court has granted pre-arrest bail to Pradeep Makhijani, a psychologist accused of rape. The case involves a woman who worked as his domestic helper. She alleged that Makhijani sexually exploited her in October of the previous year and left the job the following month. She also claimed he did not pay her remaining dues.
Makhijani, represented by lawyer Jitesh Duhilani, argued that he has been suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) since 2019, which affects his sexual abilities. The court considered his medical reports, including high diabetes and ED, and decided to grant him pre-arrest bail.
As part of the bail conditions, Makhijani is required to surrender his mobile phone to the investigating officer and attend a medical examination arranged by the police. The court set bail conditions that include personal and surety bonds of Rs 25,000 each, with one solvent surety of the same amount. Makhijani must also report to the police station every Thursday until the chargesheet is filed.
The additional public prosecutor, AM Mahurkar, argued that the investigation was ongoing and that the accused’s mobile phone was necessary for the investigation. Defense lawyer Duhilani contended that arresting Makhijani would cause significant inconvenience, despite his claims of innocence.
