Bar Council of India Denies Allegations Against Justice DY Chandrachud

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has firmly rejected the allegations made against Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud. The council described these accusations as a “malicious and baseless attempt” to disrupt the functioning of the judiciary and justice administration.

The allegations, made by lawyer RK Pathan, claim that Justice Chandrachud passed orders to benefit his son’s client. The BCI strongly condemned the actions of individuals attempting to tarnish the image of the Supreme Court and its judges for their personal interests. The council emphasized that such growing trends are a serious concern for the country and need to be addressed.

The BCI noted that the post made by Pathan has been circulated by a few individuals in an attempt to raise Justice Chandrachud’s profile, as he is expected to become the Chief Justice of India. However, the council pointed out that Pathan’s complaint lacked credibility, as no specific details, such as his address or the organization he represents, were provided.

Further, the BCI revealed that senior members of the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court Bar confirmed that this is the same Rashid Khan Pathan who was found guilty of contempt by the Supreme Court in April 2020 for filing false complaints against a judge. The court had previously labeled his complaints as scandalous.

The BCI concluded that Pathan’s current complaint is a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the Indian judiciary on a global scale, calling the timing of the allegations an indication of their malicious intent.
