On August 22, 2022, a Class 9 student died by suicide at his home in Padi, just ten days after his 14th birthday. The tragic incident is believed to be due to alleged harassment by his teachers at school.
The deceased, identified as S Bharathi Selva, left behind videos in which he alleges harassment by his class teachers. The 14-year-old boy lived with his parents and elder brother in Kumaran Nagar, Padi. He was alone at home when he took the extreme step.
His parents were at work, and his brother was in college when the incident occurred. His brother returned home around 5:30 PM and found Bharathi dead.
The police arrived at the scene and sent the body to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. They found two videos in which the boy speaks about the alleged harassment by his teachers and a video of him taking his own life.
The Korattur police have registered a case and are conducting inquiries at the school. The matter remains under investigation.
