Woman Arrested for Attempted Extortion of Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde
Renu Sharma, aged 40, has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort crores of rupees from Maharashtra’s Social Justice Minister, Dhananjay Munde. Sharma is accused of threatening to accuse Munde of rape unless he paid her a significant sum of money and gifts.
Sharma, who is the sister of Karuna Sharma—who had previously claimed to be Munde’s second wife—reportedly demanded ₹5 crore in cash, a ₹5 crore shop, mobile phones, and other expensive items from Munde.
An FIR was filed against Sharma at the Malabar Hill police station following Munde’s complaint. The Mumbai Police’s crime branch then took over the case, leading to Sharma’s arrest in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on April 20. She was brought to Mumbai on transit remand after appearing in an Indore court.
According to reports, Munde initially paid Sharma ₹3 lakh and a mobile phone valued at ₹1.42 lakh through an intermediary. However, when her demands continued, he approached the police. The investigation is ongoing.
Renu Sharma is related to Karuna Sharma, who had claimed last year that she was married to Dhananjay Munde.
