IIT-Guwahati Professor Found Dead on Campus
A 47-year-old assistant professor of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati was discovered dead in his quarters on the campus on Friday.
Superintendent of Police of Kamrup district, Hitesh Ch. Roy, stated that the body was found in a room on Friday evening. “We suspect that he allegedly committed suicide two to three days back. The body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem,” Roy said.
According to the police, they received a report from IIT-Guwahati on Friday evening about a foul smell emanating from locked faculty quarter D 022. “The circumstantial evidence suggests it to be a suicide, but we can’t conclude anything until our investigation is complete,” a police officer stated. The investigation aims to uncover the reasons behind his death.
The deceased professor, Kamal, was the son of Ismatullah Ansari, a resident of Paschim Vihar in New Delhi.
IIT-Guwahati has also released a statement: “The institute is trying to contact the family of the deceased. IIT-Guwahati expresses its deepest condolences to the family during this time of profound grief. We will cooperate fully with the police investigation and will also conduct an internal investigation into this matter.”
