Elderly Couple in Haridwar Demands Grandchild or Rs 5 Crore Compensation

Elderly Couple in Haridwar Demands Grandchild or Rs 5 Crore Compensation

In a unique case from Uttarakhand, an elderly couple in Haridwar has moved to court against their son and daughter-in-law, demanding either a grandchild within a year or Rs 5 crore in compensation.

The couple explained that they invested heavily in their son’s education, even taking out a loan to build their home. Now financially strained, they seek either a grandchild or Rs 2.5 crore from both their son and daughter-in-law.

“I gave my son all my money and got him trained in America. We have taken a loan from the bank to build our home and are financially and personally troubled. We have demanded Rs 2.5 crore each from both my son and daughter-in-law in our petition,” said Prasad, the father.

Advocate AK Srivastava, representing the parents, highlighted that this case reflects the realities of modern society. “Parents invest in their children’s education to make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care. The parents have demanded either a grandchild within a year or compensation of Rs 5 crore,” he stated.

The couple mentioned that their son and daughter-in-law were married in 2016 with the hope of having grandchildren. “We didn’t care about the gender, just wanted a grandchild,” said the petitioner.

This case brings attention to the financial and emotional expectations parents may have from their children in today’s society.
