22-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Filing False Rape Complaint Against Two Gurugram Men

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on March 23rd for falsely accusing two men of gang-raping her and extorting Rs 2 lakh from them to withdraw her complaint. The woman had accused a Facebook friend and his companion of taking her to a PG in Sector 53, Gurugram, and raping her there.

The woman, a web designer at a Noida-based private media management company, had previously lodged a similar complaint at Aman Vihar Police Station in Rohini, Delhi. She was produced in a city court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.

On March 17th, she filed rape complaints against the two men at Sector 53 Police Station and extorted Rs 2 lakh, transferred into her account by one of the victim’s brothers. She then demanded an additional Rs 4 lakh.

When brought to court to record her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC, she retracted her accusations. Inspector Amit Kumar stated, “Later, we got information that she had also filed a similar rape complaint in Delhi earlier. On suspicion, we started an investigation, and her allegations were found to be false.”

The woman has been booked under sections 384 (extortion), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion), and 389 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion) of the IPC at Sector 53 Police Station.
