Daughter-in-Law Re-enters Matrimonial Home After Rs 13 Lakh Settlement Fails: Family Claims False Allegations

A father-in-law recently shared his ordeal after his daughter-in-law forcefully re-entered their home following a failed Rs 13 lakh settlement. His son got married on October 31, 2017, but the daughter-in-law returned to her parents’ home by February 20, 2018. She then filed multiple cases against her in-laws under Section 498A, the Domestic Violence Act, and for maintenance.

Initially, the daughter-in-law’s mother agreed to a Rs 13 lakh settlement, and the father-in-law prepared two cheques of Rs 6.5 lakh each. However, the settlement fell through when the mother started demanding an additional Rs 20,000. The situation escalated as her demands increased, including a request for the in-laws to sell their home and give her daughter a share.

On February 28, 2021, after living with her parents for three years, the daughter-in-law unexpectedly arrived at her in-laws’ home, sat outside, and eventually forced her way in. She has since locked herself inside the house with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, while the father-in-law and his son have been living separately out of fear of new false cases. The father is staying with his elder brother, while the son has rented accommodation.

For the past 18 days, the family has sought help from the police, but no assistance has been provided. The father-in-law expressed concern about being falsely accused again if he tried to enter the house. He described how his daughter-in-law leaves water tanks open and then accuses the family of harassment when the water runs out. The family has been delivering food to the women trapped inside, but the daughter-in-law records videos in an attempt to further incriminate them.

The neighbors have come forward, claiming the cases are false and that the family has been living peacefully in the area for 30 years. They believe the situation is motivated by money. One neighbor mentioned that the daughter-in-law had left her husband, claiming he was physically unfit, while another elderly neighbor noted that the girl’s family contributed only Rs 4 lakh during the marriage but is now demanding over Rs 13 lakh.

When questioned by journalists about the Rs 13 lakh demand, the daughter-in-law’s mother alleged that her son-in-law was impotent, and when her daughter informed the in-laws, they suggested staying friends and adopting a child. The mother questioned why the family wouldn’t seek medical treatment for their son.

Later, the mother contradicted herself, stating they no longer wanted the Rs 13 lakh and that her daughter should continue living in the in-laws’ house. When asked why she wants her daughter to live with a man she claims is physically unfit, the mother insisted that he should seek medical treatment.
