22-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Filing False Rape Complaint Against Two Gurugram Men
A 22-year-old woman was arrested on March 23 for allegedly filing a false gang rape complaint against two men in Gurugram and extorting Rs 2 lakh from them to withdraw her accusation. The woman had claimed that a Facebook friend and his companion took her to a PG in Sector 53 and raped her.
Background of the Case
The woman, a web designer working for a Noida-based media management company, had previously lodged a similar complaint at Aman Vihar Police Station in Rohini, Delhi. After filing the false complaint in Gurugram, she was produced in court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.
Details of the Accusation
On March 17, the woman filed a rape complaint against two men at Sector 53 Police Station. She extorted Rs 2 lakh from them, which was transferred to her account by one of the victims’ brothers. She further demanded an additional Rs 4 lakh from them.
Investigation and Arrest
When the woman was brought to court to record her statement under section 164 of the CrPC, she retracted her statement. Inspector Amit Kumar revealed, “We later found out she had filed a similar rape complaint in Delhi before. Suspicious of her actions, we began an investigation and discovered her allegations were false.”
Legal Actions
The woman has been booked under several sections of the IPC at Sector 53 Police Station:
- Section 384: Extortion
- Section 385: Putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion
- Section 389: Putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion
