Chennai (Padi), August 22, 2022 – A 14-year-old Class 9 student named S Bharathi Selva tragically died by suicide at his home in Kumaran Nagar, Padi, just ten days after celebrating his birthday. The boy reportedly took this extreme step due to harassment by teachers at school.
The incident occurred on Monday, while the boy was alone at home. His parents were at work, and his elder brother was at college. Around 5:30 PM, the brother returned to find Bharathi dead. The family immediately informed the police.
Police found two videos recorded by the boy shortly before his death. In one video, he accused his class teachers of harassment, and in another, he recorded the act of taking his life. These videos have been taken as critical evidence in the case.
The body was sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. The Korattur Police have registered a case and are questioning staff at the school where the student studied.
Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the role of the school and the teachers involved. This heartbreaking case has sparked fresh concerns about student mental health and the need for a safe school environment.
