In a surprising turn of events in Telangana, a bride called off her wedding at the last minute on Thursday, demanding more dowry from the groom’s family. She insisted on receiving an additional Rs 2 lakh, following the tribe’s tradition of ‘reverse dowry,’ where the groom’s family pays dowry to the bride.
The wedding was set to take place in Ghatkesar, near Hyderabad. The bride, who was supposed to travel from her hometown of Aswaraopet village, refused to attend the ceremony. When she did not show up at the wedding venue, the groom’s family went to the hotel where the bride’s family was staying to seek an explanation. It was then that they learned the bride was demanding a higher dowry.
Shocked by the demand, the groom’s family went to the police station to report the incident. The police summoned the bride’s family, and both families discussed the matter.
According to police reports, the families resolved the issue without any formal complaint or legal action. The police noted that the bride had no real interest in the marriage and used the dowry demand as a reason to cancel it. The Rs 2 lakh dowry initially paid by the groom’s family was returned, and both families parted ways.
