In a horrifying crime reported in January 2022, a woman in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, along with her lover, allegedly murdered her father-in-law and mother-in-law before setting their bodies on fire inside their home. The woman, Mandeep Kaur, was reportedly frustrated with her in-laws for standing in the way of her extramarital affair with a local granthi, Jasmeet Singh.
The brutal crime took place in the village of Tanda, Hoshiarpur, when Mandeep’s husband, Ravinder Singh, an NRI living in Portugal, was away from the house. Ravinder, who had returned to India for a visit, discovered the crime when he found the house locked and smoke coming from inside. Upon breaking in, he found his wife tied to a chair, but she quickly freed herself. He then discovered his parents’ bodies burning in their room.
Initially, Mandeep claimed that the crime was committed by intruders who broke into the house, tied her up, and set the fire. However, police investigation soon revealed the truth. It was discovered that Mandeep and Jasmeet had killed the elderly couple to eliminate them as obstacles in their relationship. They then set the bodies on fire to destroy the evidence and staged the scene to make it look like a robbery gone wrong.
Ravinder had suspected his wife of infidelity after hearing her late-night phone conversations with an unknown person. Despite warning her, Mandeep continued the affair, leading to tension between them. Ravinder even returned to India to protect his parents, as Mandeep had allegedly threatened to kill them. Sadly, his worst fears came true.
The police arrested both Mandeep and Jasmeet, recovering stolen jewelry that they had taken from the house after the murder. Both have been charged with murder and are awaiting trial.
