On Wednesday, a special court for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act fined a woman ₹20,000 for falsely accusing her husband of raping her minor sister in 2019.
The special judge, Mahendra Srivastava, found the rape accusation to be false after examining the evidence presented during the trial. The woman, from Nalluthukuli village near Pollachi, had reported to the Pollachi all-woman police that her husband had raped her 16-year-old sister multiple times. The sister had been living with them following the death of their parents.
Based on her complaint, the police charged the woman’s husband under sections 5(l), (n), and 6 of the Pocso Act and Section 506(i) of the Indian Penal Code, leading to his arrest. However, during the trial, the minor girl testified that her brother-in-law had not raped her.
Following the girl’s testimony, the court acquitted the man on Wednesday and imposed a fine on his wife for making false allegations.
