A 27-year-old woman from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is now facing charges of extortion and criminal intimidation after filing false rape cases against four men over the past six years.
The woman had lodged multiple complaints against these men, accusing them of rape under the “pretext of marriage,” forced unnatural sex, and taking unauthorized videos and photographs. The cases were filed in February 2016, March and April 2019, February and October 2021, and March of this year.
Two of the accused men were arrested, while another received a stay from the Supreme Court. The fourth man obtained anticipatory bail from a lower court.
The situation changed when a fifth man, against whom no rape case was registered, approached the Jabalpur district court. He alleged that the woman was threatening him with false rape charges and demanding money. Another of the accused men also made similar claims.
Following a review of the evidence, the Jabalpur district court ordered that a case of extortion and criminal intimidation be filed against the woman. She has been summoned to appear in court on September 22. Failure to appear could result in an arrest warrant.
Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Siddharth Bahuguna stated, “The woman registered over five rape cases against different men, who allege that she was extorting money. The court has acknowledged the complaint and registered a case. The investigation will continue.”
The woman has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless.” She claims that she loved the men involved and that they broke her trust, refuting any claims of demanding money.
