Woman in Burqa Robs Mother’s House of Gold Worth Rs 15 Lakh Due to Envy Towards Sister, Arrested
In a shocking incident in Delhi, a 31-year-old woman named Shweta was arrested for stealing gold worth Rs 15 lakh from her own mother’s house. The theft, which occurred on January 30, was driven by envy towards her younger sister and financial struggles.
Shweta’s mother, Kamlesh, a 65-year-old resident of Sewak Park, Uttam Nagar, lodged a complaint with the police reporting that gold coins, multiple necklaces, gold earrings, and Rs 25,000 in cash had been stolen from her home.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the police discovered that a woman in a burqa, carrying a yellow bag, had entered the house between 2 pm and 2:30 pm on the day of the robbery. Further investigation revealed that the woman was none other than Shweta, Kamlesh’s elder daughter.
According to police, Shweta committed the theft out of jealousy towards her younger sister Monica. She believed her mother was partial to Monica and had set aside jewelry for Monica’s upcoming wedding. Additionally, Shweta was facing debt, including Rs 90,000 she had borrowed from her mother, which motivated her to steal the jewelry to repay the loan.
Shweta was arrested from her home in Mohan Garden on Saturday. During interrogation, she confessed to the crime, stating that she felt resentment towards her sister and was under pressure to pay off her debts.
On the day of the theft, Shweta stole the house keys and left her home under the pretense of buying vegetables. She then changed into a burqa at the Uttam Nagar West Metro Station and headed to her mother’s house to carry out the robbery.
Shweta later sold the stolen jewelry at a nearby shop. The stolen items included jewelry that Shweta had given to her mother during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.
The police registered a case under IPC Section 380 (theft from a dwelling house). Kamlesh, a pensioner, had lost her husband in 1997. Monica works for an AI company in Delhi, while Shweta is a housewife and mother to a four-year-old girl. Shweta’s husband, who works in Noida, was unaware of her plan to commit the theft.
