Woman Arrested for Trying to Extort ₹10 Crore from Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde
Mumbai Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman, Renu Sharma, for allegedly attempting to extort crores of rupees from Maharashtra’s Social Justice Minister, Dhananjay Munde. According to officials, she threatened to falsely accuse the minister of rape if her demands were not met.
Renu Sharma is the sister of Karuna Sharma, who had previously claimed to be Munde’s second wife. Based on Munde’s complaint, an FIR was registered at Malabar Hill police station. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch then took over the investigation and arrested Renu from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on April 20.
She was brought to Mumbai on transit remand after being presented in a local court in Indore.
According to the police, Renu Sharma demanded ₹5 crore in cash, a shop worth ₹5 crore, expensive mobile phones, and other luxury items. Initially, Munde gave her ₹3 lakh and a smartphone worth ₹1.42 lakh through an associate, hoping to stop the blackmail. However, as the demands continued, he approached the police.
The case is still under investigation as authorities dig deeper into the extortion attempt and its possible links to past allegations made by Karuna Sharma.
