A 41-year-old woman was booked on Monday for abandoning her newborn baby boy in a toilet dustbin at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. The incident was discovered around 10:30 am when a housekeeping staff member heard the baby crying while cleaning the toilet. The hotel staff promptly informed the police, who registered a case at the N M Joshi Marg police station and traced the woman using CCTV footage.
The baby was immediately taken to Nair Hospital and admitted to the NICU. The child is reportedly in stable condition.
The accused, a resident of Goregaon (East), explained during a preliminary inquiry that she had come to the hotel for some work. Due to sudden labor, she delivered the baby in the toilet and abandoned him because of a personal dispute with her husband.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the situation.
