Tripura Woman Beheads Husband and Hangs Head from Ceiling, Arrested
In a horrifying incident from Tripura, a 40-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly beheading her 50-year-old husband and hanging his severed head from the ceiling of their home. The shocking crime happened in Indira Colony, Ramchandraghat, located in the Khowai district, on March 12.
According to the police, the woman used a traditional Tripuri machete, called a takkal, to attack her husband while he was asleep around 2 AM. After the brutal act, she placed the severed head in a shopping bag and hung it inside the house.
Her two minor sons and brother, who reportedly witnessed the disturbing scene, ran away and alerted the police.
When officers from the Khowai police station arrived at the scene in the morning (as law does not allow arresting a woman at night), they found her sitting calmly near the body and the weapon. She did not attempt to escape or resist arrest.
The woman was presented in a local court, where she was sent to judicial custody for 14 days, according to a senior police officer.
Police said that there was no known domestic conflict between the couple. However, some neighbors claimed the woman had been showing unusual behavior in the days before the incident. Still, the police noted that she had no history of mental illness.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the motive behind the murder and to determine whether mental health played a role in this tragic event.
