In a disturbing incident from Lucknow, a 16-year-old boy killed his mother on June 4 because she was having an affair while his father was away for work. On June 7, the boy video-called his father and showed him the body, which he had kept locked in a room for two days.
Initially, it was believed that the teenager shot his mother with his father’s licensed revolver for not allowing him to play PUBG. However, new revelations suggest a different motive. A family member has claimed that the police fabricated the PUBG angle to cover up for the real culprit.
The 16-year-old has been sent to a juvenile home after the police filed an FIR and charged him under Section 302 for murder.
The boy told the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that a property dealer would often visit his mother when his father was away. After informing his father about these visits, his parents had a heated argument, and his mother hit him. This incident left him angry.
He further explained that during one such visit by the property dealer, he told his father, who responded, “If I were in your place, I would have shot her.” When the boy asked for further instructions, his father replied, “Do whatever is on your mind.”
The boy also shared that after his mother lost Rs. 10,000, she blamed and beat him, although he did not take the money. Seeking revenge, he waited until his mother and sister were asleep, took his father’s pistol, and shot his mother. When his father found out, he initially cursed the boy but later said there would now be “peace” at home.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Qasim Abidi, the boy threatened his nine-year-old sister to keep quiet and used air fresheners to mask the smell of the decomposing body.
In response to the incident, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief Narinder Batra assured the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) that PUBG would not receive recognition or promotion as it is a violent game.
The boy has shown no remorse for his actions and is willing to face the death penalty. He told the magistrate, “The maximum punishment is death, and I am ready for it. I killed my mother with a pistol and even partied with friends afterward.”
Family members claim the boy is being falsely accused, and they believe that someone may have taken advantage of his anger towards his mother to carry out the murder.
