Rohtak, Haryana:
In a strong move to stop blackmail and honeytrap cases, the Rohtak police have decided to identify women who file false rape or sexual exploitation complaints and later extort money from the accused.
Susheela Devi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime Against Women), said that the police will create a database of such complainants. This will ensure that women with a history of filing fake cases cannot repeat the offense at any police station in the district.
This action comes after several cases came to light where women misused the law for personal gain. In one recent incident, a woman and her foster father were caught red-handed while accepting Rs 7.5 lakh in settlement from a man they had falsely accused of rape. The police arrested them on the spot.
In another case, a woman artist filed a rape complaint against a man from Bhiwani. On investigation, the police found that she had a history of filing similar complaints. She was already married, but after her first husband went missing, she remarried and later filed rape and dowry harassment charges against the second man. She then accused another man from Fazilka of rape in Delhi. However, the Delhi Police dropped the case after discovering her track record.
The Rohtak police now aim to prevent such misuse of rape laws and protect innocent individuals from false allegations and financial extortion.
