Husbands Perform ‘Pind Daan’ for Living Wives in Mumbai: A Symbolic Act to Let Go of Trauma

Husbands Perform ‘Pind Daan’ for Living Wives in Mumbai

On September 19, about 50 husbands gathered near Banganga Tank in Mumbai to perform ‘Pind Daan,’ a ritual typically reserved for honoring deceased relatives. What made this event unusual is that the ceremony was for their living wives.

These men were either divorced, separated, or battling long-standing cases against their wives in family courts. The ritual, organized by the NGO Vaastav Foundation, was an emotional act to help these husbands let go of painful memories and move on from their past.

Vaastav Foundation’s president explained that the event is held annually in different cities across India. It aims to support husbands who have faced harassment or legal battles involving Section 498A, dowry cases, or similar issues. The ceremony serves as a symbolic way for the men to declare their relationships “dead” emotionally and spiritually.

The participants expressed that their wives had misused their rights and freedoms to extort or harm them. They felt their relationships had lost all meaning, leaving them emotionally detached. Performing the ritual was their way of moving past the trauma and freeing themselves from the lingering negativity.

The ceremony has sparked conversations about the emotional struggles men face in marital conflicts and the need for support mechanisms for all individuals affected by such situations.
