Wife and Her Lover Kill NRI Husband’s Parents, Burn Bodies in Hoshiarpur’s Tanda Village
In a shocking incident from January 2022, a woman named Mandeep Kaur and her lover were arrested for killing her NRI husband’s parents and setting their bodies on fire at their home in Tanda village, Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
The woman, whose husband Ravinder Singh lives in Portugal, allegedly committed the crime with the help of Jasmeet Singh, a granthi (religious preacher) at a gurdwara in Data village. According to the police, the woman was angry at her in-laws because they disapproved of her affair with Jasmeet.
The murder was initially made to look like a robbery. Mandeep claimed that three people entered the house, tied her up, and set the fire. However, during the police investigation, the truth was uncovered through circumstantial evidence.
How the Crime Was Discovered
Ravinder Singh told the police that he left his house around 11:00 AM on January 1 and returned at 10:15 PM. He noticed smoke coming from inside and found the door locked. After breaking in, he found Mandeep tied to a chair — but she untied herself suspiciously easily. When Ravinder checked his parents’ room, he found it locked. Upon opening the door, he saw the room on fire and his parents’ bodies burning inside.
Mandeep told him that three strangers had tied her up and started the fire, but police found several contradictions in her statement. During the investigation, the police discovered that she had called Jasmeet to the house after her husband left. Together, they strangled and stabbed her father-in-law and mother-in-law, then set their bodies on fire to destroy the evidence.
Motive Behind the Crime
Ravinder said he moved to Portugal shortly after marriage and later found out that Mandeep was having long phone conversations at night with someone. When he confronted her, she dismissed his concerns, and they had many arguments. Mandeep had even threatened to kill his parents, which made Ravinder return to India in December 2021.
Police confirmed that Jasmeet Singh, originally from Sanghar village in Amritsar, was in a romantic relationship with Mandeep. She saw her in-laws as an obstacle to this affair and decided to remove them. After the murder, the two also stole jewelry from the house, which was later recovered by the police.
Both Mandeep Kaur and Jasmeet Singh have been charged with murder and theft and are now in police custody.
