Mumbai Police Adjusts Female Staff Work Hours to 8 Hours; Male Staff Hours Remain at 14

Starting March 8, 2022, female police officers in Maharashtra will have their work hours reduced to 8 hours a day, down from the usual 12-hour shifts. This change is part of an experimental measure announced by the state Director General of Police (DGP), Sanjay Pandey.

The new eight-hour workday for female staff will be in effect until further notice, according to the DGP’s recent directive issued on Thursday. The reduction aims to improve the work-life balance for female police officers.

Previously, this reduced-hour system was trialed in Nagpur, Amaravati, and Pune Rural areas. Male police officers will continue to work 14-hour shifts.

In cases of emergencies or during festivals, female police staff may be required to work longer hours, but only with approval from the district Superintendents of Police or Deputy Commissioners of Police.
