Man Dies by Suicide After Harassment Over Loan Repayment; Body Found on Railway Track

A 30-year-old man from Hyderabad, identified as Sudhakar, allegedly took his own life on July 19 after being harassed by agents from online loan apps over unpaid loans. His body was discovered on the railway tracks near Shivarampally railway station, according to the police.

Sudhakar, who worked as a fireman with the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services, had borrowed money from instant loan apps. However, he was unable to repay the loans due to financial difficulties. Investigations revealed that agents of the loan apps repeatedly harassed and abused him. They even sent messages to his relatives and other contacts, labeling him a loan defaulter, which deeply affected him.

According to a police official, Sudhakar’s family stated that the constant harassment from the loan agents led him to end his life. His body was recovered from the railway tracks soon after.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) against the loan app organization involved in the harassment.

This tragic case is not isolated. Many individuals have faced similar harassment from online loan apps, which offer quick loans but charge high-interest rates and processing fees. When borrowers fail to repay, the recovery agents often resort to severe tactics, including threatening to morph their photos and share them with family members or others on their contact list.
