A Kerala woman named Neha (name changed), who had previously accused her husband Rahul P Gopal and his family of dowry abuse, has now retracted her statements. In an 18-minute video posted on YouTube, Neha claimed that she was forced to make the allegations by her lawyer and family.
Initial Allegations
On May 12, just seven days after her wedding, 26-year-old Neha lodged a complaint with the Pantheerankavu police. She alleged that her husband, Rahul, had brutally tortured her over dowry. Neha also accused the police of neglecting her case, which led to an investigation headed by Feroke Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saju K Abraham.
Retraction in Video
Neha has now appeared in a video denying her previous allegations. She admitted that Rahul hit her, but claimed it only happened twice due to misunderstandings, not dowry demands. She said her family and lawyer pressured her to make the false allegations. Neha expressed regret for her actions in the video.
Family’s Reaction and Missing Case
Neha’s family has denied her latest claims, suggesting the video might have been made under duress. Neha’s brother reported that she has been missing from her workplace in Thiruvananthapuram since June 3. The family only discovered her disappearance a week later, on June 10.
They have lodged a missing person’s complaint with the Paravoor police in Ernakulam and informed the team handling the domestic abuse case. Neha’s brother stated that the police had registered the domestic violence case based on a doctor’s statement confirming her physical assault.
Further Developments
Amid speculations of coercion, Neha appeared in a second video asserting that no one forced her to make the first video. She claimed she felt pressured and wanted to reveal the truth, despite accusing her family of issuing death threats.
The case remains under investigation as authorities look into Neha’s disappearance and the authenticity of her retraction.
