Karnataka Techie Extorted ₹21 Lakh by Ex-Girlfriend and Her Relatives
A shocking case of extortion and assault has come to light in Karnataka. A software engineer from Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly attacked and forced to transfer ₹21 lakh to his ex-girlfriend and her relatives. The accused also took his gold chain, laptop, and iPhone before abandoning him.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on June 16 and 17 at a resort near Nandi Hills, Karnataka. Vijay Singh, the victim, had been in a relationship with Bhavana Reddy from Proddatur for over a year and a half. However, their relationship ended a few weeks ago.
Bhavana’s father had previously requested time to arrange their wedding, but after the breakup, Vijay was invited to a party by Pulla Reddy, Bhavana’s relative. When Vijay arrived in Devanahalli, he was taken to a resort near Nandi Hills, where he was ambushed.
Assault and Extortion
At the resort, Pulla Reddy and his accomplices sprayed pepper spray on Vijay’s face and assaulted him with a belt and rope, causing serious injuries. They then made a video call to Bhavana, showing her Vijay’s condition.
The next day, Bhavana arrived at the resort and verbally abused Vijay. She demanded ₹30 lakh from him and threatened him to never disclose their past relationship.
Vijay initially said he only had ₹8 lakh, but Bhavana forced him to take a loan through a mobile app. Once the loan was approved, he had ₹21 lakh in his account. Under pressure, he transferred ₹15 lakh to Bhavana’s relative Nageswara Reddy and ₹5 lakh to Sudhir, an accomplice of Pulla Reddy. An additional ₹50,000 each was sent to two other associates.
Robbery and Abandonment
After forcing the money transfer, the attackers snatched Vijay’s gold chain, laptop, and iPhone. Bhavana then drove Vijay to Bengaluru and abandoned him near Vidyaranyapura.
On June 19, Vijay reported the incident to the police. Following the complaint, authorities arrested Bhavana Reddy and Pulla Reddy.
Police Investigation
The case has been registered at the Nandi Hills police station in Chikkaballapur district. The police are investigating further to identify and arrest other suspects involved in the crime.
This shocking incident highlights the dangers of financial and emotional exploitation after relationships end. The police urge victims of similar crimes to come forward and report incidents immediately.
