Ahmedabad, Gujarat:
A 29-year-old man from Ahmedabad has asked the police for protection, saying his wife, who is addicted to alcohol, abuses him both physically and mentally.
The man shared that he married the woman in March 2018. However, he only found out about her drinking problem after their wedding. He says his wife forced him to leave his elderly parents and live with her separately.
In June, when his parents became infected with COVID-19, he returned to their home to take care of them. His wife then moved to the first floor of the same house but refused to help care for his sick parents. Instead, she demanded that the ownership of the house be transferred to her. She even threatened to take her own life if her demand wasn’t met.
Later, on September 11, 2020, she filed a complaint against him and his family, accusing them of cruelty. The man says she continues to live on the first floor, often hits him after drinking, and then calls the women’s helpline to make false accusations against him.
Fearing for his and his parents’ safety, he has formally asked the police for help. Khokhra Police Station inspector YS Gamit said they are reviewing the application and will take action after confirming the facts.
