Elderly Couple in Haridwar Demands Grandchild or ₹5 Crore Compensation from Son and Daughter-in-Law

Elderly Couple in Haridwar Files Case Against Son and Daughter-in-Law, Demands Grandchild or ₹5 Crore Compensation

In a strange and emotional case from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, an elderly couple has filed a legal case against their son and daughter-in-law. They are demanding either a grandchild within one year or ₹5 crore as compensation.

The couple claims they spent all their savings on their son’s education, including sending him to the USA for training. They also took a loan to build their house and are now facing financial struggles. According to them, they expected to be taken care of emotionally and financially in return.

“We gave everything to our son – our money, our support, his education abroad. Now we have nothing left, and we’re in debt. We just want a grandchild or ₹2.5 crore each from our son and daughter-in-law,” said the father, Mr. Prasad.

The couple’s lawyer, Advocate A.K. Srivastava, said the case reflects the harsh reality of today’s society. “Parents invest in their children with the hope of support in old age. These parents expected to become grandparents and receive basic care, but feel let down.”

The son and daughter-in-law were married in 2016. According to the petition, the parents had no preference for the gender of the grandchild — they simply wanted one.

This unusual case has attracted attention across the country, highlighting the emotional and financial expectations that sometimes exist within Indian families.
