Daughter-in-Law Allegedly Re-Enters Matrimonial Home After ₹13 Lakh Settlement Fails
A family in India is facing ongoing turmoil after their daughter-in-law allegedly forced her way back into their home, despite a failed ₹13 lakh settlement deal. The woman had been living with her mother for three years after leaving the matrimonial home in 2018, shortly after marrying the man in 2017.
According to the husband’s father, the woman filed multiple cases against the family under Section 498A, the Domestic Violence Act, and for maintenance. After some negotiation, her mother agreed to a ₹13 lakh out-of-court settlement, and two cheques were prepared. However, the woman’s family later demanded an extra ₹20,000, and the deal fell through.
Tensions escalated when, on February 28, 2021, the woman allegedly arrived at the home and entered by force. The father-in-law claims she threw stones, made threats, and locked herself inside with his wife and daughter. Fearing more false cases, he and his son moved out and are now living separately.
Despite multiple requests to the police for help over 18 days, the family says no action has been taken. They accuse the woman of creating false harassment claims and trying to trap them by recording videos and leaving the water tanks empty.
Neighbors have also spoken out in support of the husband’s family, calling them peaceful and respectable. Some even allege that the woman had taken money before the wedding and is now using legal pressure to demand more.
On the other hand, the woman’s mother claims that the marriage failed because the husband is physically unfit. She said that her daughter had asked for medical treatment for him, but the in-laws advised adoption instead. The mother initially agreed to the ₹13 lakh settlement but later changed her stance, saying her daughter now wants to live at her husband’s home.
When asked by journalists why her daughter wants to live with someone allegedly unfit for marriage, the mother responded that the husband should get medical help.
This case shows the growing complexity of modern matrimonial disputes in India, where personal conflicts often turn into prolonged legal battles.
