Guwahati Woman Kills Husband and Mother-in-Law, Stores Body Parts in Fridge
A shocking crime similar to Delhi’s Shraddha Walkar case has emerged from Guwahati. Bandana Kalita, a woman from Noonmati, Guwahati, allegedly killed her husband and mother-in-law, stored their body parts in a refrigerator, and later disposed of them in the mountains.
The gruesome incident came to light on February 19, seven months after the brutal murders. The accused, Bandana Kalita, has been arrested and has confessed to the crime. During the investigation, she revealed that she killed her husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and mother-in-law, Shankari Dey, with the help of her partner and a friend.
On August 17, 2022, Bandana cut the bodies into multiple pieces and stored them in the refrigerator. She then left the rented home she shared with her deceased husband. Bandana later returned to clean the house, removed the body parts from the fridge, and disposed of them in Dawki, Meghalaya, on August 21, 2022.
Bandana, along with her accomplices Arup Deka and Dhanjit Deka, are now in police custody. Amarjyoti had married Bandana a few years ago, and they lived in Narengi. Their marriage soured after Amarjyoti discovered Bandana’s affair with Dhanjit Deka, leading to frequent fights.
Amarjyoti’s mother, Shankari Dey, owned five buildings in the Chandmari area, with her brother managing her finances. As the marital dispute escalated, Amarjyoti and Bandana decided to divorce. However, seven months ago, Bandana reported her husband and mother-in-law missing to the Noonmati Police, initiating an investigation.
Bandana later accused Shankari’s brother of misusing money from her mother-in-law’s five bank accounts. This backfired when the police discovered Bandana had withdrawn ₹5 lakh from Shankari’s account using her ATM card, raising suspicion. Further investigation led to Bandana’s arrest on February 17.
During interrogation, Bandana confessed to the murders. She detailed how she killed Shankari on August 17 with the help of Arup Das, chopped the body, and stored the parts in the fridge. On August 21, with the help of her lover, Dhanjit Deka, she strangled her husband, dismembered his body, and stored the parts. The trio then disposed of the body parts in deep gorges in Dawki, Meghalaya, and cleaned the crime scene.
Neighbors reported seeing Bandana burning a mattress and clothes on the terrace on the day of the murders. Following the killings, she stayed with her parents in Panikhaiti, Guwahati, where she was eventually arrested.
