Lucknow University Student Calls Police After Being Denied Entry for Arriving Late

A female MA (Arabic) student at Lucknow University caused a commotion by calling the police after being denied entry to her class for arriving late.

Incident Details

The student arrived late to a lecture conducted by Prof. Aslam Islahi. Following standard procedure, Prof. Islahi asked her to leave, as he does with other latecomers. However, the situation escalated when the student began arguing with the professor, leading to a heated exchange.

Police Involvement

Feeling harassed, the student dialed 112 to call the police, claiming that the professor was biased against her due to her belonging to a different sect. Despite making the call, she did not file a formal written complaint against Prof. Islahi. She left the scene and declined to speak with media personnel.

Faculty Response

In response, the faculty of the Arabic department lodged a collective complaint with the proctor’s office, asserting that the student has been problematic and disrespectful towards staff. They urged the university administration to take disciplinary action.

Prof. Islahi expressed, “We expect that the university administration will take some action against her for indiscipline.”

Another faculty member added, “She often criticizes the department’s facilities and lectures, and even reprimands teachers for minor delays.”

Administrative Action

Proctor Rakesh Dwivedi commented on the situation, stating, “It is a sensitive matter, and the student seems to need counselling. Therefore, we have requested the psychology department to provide assistance.”

The incident highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and addressing student grievances within educational institutions. The university is now tasked with balancing disciplinary measures and providing support to the student involved.
