Woman Throws Acid on Ex-Boyfriend During His Wedding in Chhattisgarh, Arrested

Chhattisgarh, India – A shocking incident took place on April 19, 2023, in Chhote Amabal village of Bastar district, when a 22-year-old woman allegedly threw acid on her ex-boyfriend during his wedding ceremony.

The accused was arrested on Sunday after police investigations confirmed her involvement. The groom, Damrudhar Baghel (25), was getting married to a 19-year-old woman when the attack happened. Due to the acid splash, the groom, bride, and 10 other guests suffered minor burns.

Police registered a case under Section 326A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for causing grievous hurt by acid. Initially, the attacker’s identity was unknown because the attack occurred in the evening, and there was a power outage during the incident.

Officers reviewed CCTV footage, questioned locals, and checked the background of both the bride and groom. The investigation led to a major twist—the attacker was the groom’s ex-girlfriend, who had disguised herself as a man to hide her identity.

According to police, the woman and Damrudhar had been in a relationship for several years. She claimed that Damrudhar betrayed her by choosing to marry another woman.

Filled with anger and heartbreak, she allegedly planned the attack after hearing about his wedding. She stole acid from the chilli farm where she worked. The acid was typically used to clean drip irrigation systems.

The woman has now been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
