In a heartbreaking incident from Pune, an elderly man named Namdev Sarodia attempted suicide by jumping from a building after he was not allowed to meet his grandson.
The incident occurred in late 2018, when Namdev and his wife visited their son’s house hoping to see their grandson. However, their estranged daughter-in-law, Shalini, allegedly forced them out of the house. Deeply hurt by this, Namdev later jumped from the fourth floor of the building. Before the jump, he also left a suicide note.
Even though the tragic event happened four years ago, a police case was only recently filed by Namdev’s son, Sandeep Namdev Sarodia, who lives in Baner, Pune. The complaint has been lodged at the Chaturshringi police station.
As per the complaint, Sandeep and Shalini were divorced following ongoing family issues. In November 2018, Sandeep’s father tried visiting his grandson despite his poor health. But Shalini, along with her mother Manilata Sharma and brother Shekhar Sharma, allegedly refused to let him meet the child. The constant refusal and emotional pain affected Namdev’s mental health, leading to his suicide attempt.
Sandeep, who is a judge, informed the police that the complaint was delayed due to the ongoing medical treatment of his mother and the time taken to obtain the suicide note. Based on his statement, a case has now been registered against Shalini, her mother, and her brother.
Assistant Police Inspector S. Gaikwad is currently handling the investigation.
This incident highlights the serious emotional toll that family disputes can have on elderly parents, especially when access to grandchildren is denied.
