A 30-year-old man from Ludhiana, Punjab, died by suicide after being slapped and insulted by his girlfriend over a money dispute. The police have arrested the woman, identified as Rajwinder Kaur from Ranwan village, for abetment to suicide.
The victim, Gurdeep Singh, had returned to India about two-and-a-half years ago after working in Dubai. His father, Nachhatar Singh, told police that while Gurdeep was abroad, he was in a relationship with Rajwinder and used to send her money.
According to the father, Gurdeep had sent her around Rs 1.20 lakh, but when he asked her to return the money, she would argue with him. On the morning of September 28, Gurdeep went to Rajwinder’s house to ask for his money. Later, she came to his home, grabbed him by the neck, slapped him, and verbally abused him, saying she did not owe him anything.
Gurdeep felt deeply humiliated after the incident and told his family he couldn’t live with the shame. That same evening, he consumed poison at home.
He was immediately taken to Ludhiana CMC Hospital, but sadly, he died during treatment.
Police from the Machhiwara station started an investigation and have sent the body for post-mortem. The woman has now been booked for abetment to suicide, and further inquiry is ongoing.
