Woman and Mother Arrested for Beating Husband to Death in Bengaluru
In a shocking incident from Bengaluru, a 26-year-old woman named Shilpa and her mother, Kempadevamma, were arrested by Konanakunte police on September 4 for allegedly killing Shilpa’s husband, Mahesh, and trying to make it look like a natural death.
On September 2, Shilpa took Mahesh’s body in an ambulance to his hometown near Mandya for cremation. However, Mahesh’s family members noticed bruises and blood clots on his body and informed the police. A post-mortem confirmed that the cause of death was due to physical assault and torture.
After being questioned by the police, Shilpa admitted that she, her mother, and a relative had assaulted Mahesh to death. Based on her statement, police arrested Shilpa and her mother. They are still searching for the relative involved in the crime.
Shilpa and Mahesh had been married for eight years and had a six-year-old son. The couple worked as domestic helpers and lived in a rented house in Goudanapalya. According to the police, Mahesh had become an alcoholic, and the couple often fought. During these fights, Shilpa would call her family members to beat up Mahesh.
A few days before his death, Mahesh had told his younger brother, Shivakumar, about the abuse he was facing at home. Mahesh then returned to Bengaluru to meet his son and was not seen alive again.
Later, Shilpa called Shivakumar, claiming that Mahesh had died from an epileptic seizure after being drunk and caught in the rain.
The police have booked Shilpa and her mother under Section 302 (murder) and Section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Both women have been sent to judicial custody while the investigation continues.
