Bombay High Court Rejects Woman’s Claim of Forced Marriage Through ‘Spiked Prasad’
The Bombay High Court recently rejected a woman’s claim that her marriage was fraudulent and not consensual because her husband gave her prasad that was spiked. This observation was made by a bench of Justices KR Sriram and PK Chavan.
The woman alleged that her husband first abused her in 2007 when she was only 15 years old. He also took obscene pictures of her and later used them to blackmail her.
She said she stayed silent because she came from a respected family in a rural area of Haryana, where even a small rumor could ruin a woman’s life. She moved to Mumbai in 2012. The woman also claimed her husband followed her to Mumbai and forced her to live with him. She said she was abused multiple times, even in public. She only filed a complaint in 2017.
After reviewing the case, the court noted that there was no evidence to support the woman’s allegations.
Due to lack of proof, the court refused to grant her a divorce.
