Early Hair Loss in Indian Men: Causes and Solutions

An increasing number of individuals are experiencing advanced stages of hair loss due to a lack of awareness about its root causes and delayed treatment.

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Traya, India’s first health-tech brand focused on treating hair loss from within, has revealed significant findings from a comprehensive study involving over 500,000 men. The data shows that 50.31% of Indian men facing hair loss are under the age of 25. Among men younger than 21, 25.89% are already at Stage 3 or beyond. This figure rises to 33.35% for those aged 21-25. The average age of a Traya customer is 28, indicating that hair loss is a growing concern among young men.

Hair loss can result from one primary factor or multiple underlying causes. The study highlights that dandruff is a major contributor to male hair loss. About 65% of Indian men under 25 with hair loss suffer from dandruff, which causes itching, inflammation, and irritation, leading to hair loss. Stress and anxiety are also significant factors, with 6 out of 10 young Indian men experiencing hair loss due to high stress levels.

Another key finding is the link between gastrointestinal issues and premature hair loss. The study reveals that 37% of men experiencing hair loss have compromised gut health, including problems like bloating and gas. Additionally, irregular sleep patterns contribute to hair loss in 3 out of every 10 young Indian men under 25.

Hair loss impacts physical appearance, self-esteem, and confidence, causing additional stress and anxiety. Early intervention can address the underlying issues, potentially reversing hair loss and preventing emotional distress.

Saloni Anand, Co-Founder of Traya, emphasized, “Hair loss is often seen as a cosmetic issue, but it’s a symptom of internal health problems. Many young people face premature hair loss due to modern lifestyle factors, but they seek solutions only after years of consistent hair loss. Lack of knowledge about the stages of hair loss, its root causes, and misconceptions about treatment prevent timely help. Delaying treatment can allow hair loss to progress to Stage 5, making reversal difficult, especially for hairlines. Our goal is to raise awareness and encourage early treatment, particularly among the youth.”

Early awareness and treatment are crucial to preventing further hair loss and maintaining confidence and well-being.
