Lucknow University Student Calls Police After Being Denied Entry for Late Arrival

An unusual incident unfolded at Lucknow University when a female MA (Arabic) first-year student called the police after being denied entry into her class for arriving late.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, Prof. Aslam Islahi was conducting a lecture when the student arrived late and attempted to join the class. Following standard practice, the professor asked her to leave the classroom. This led to a heated argument between the student and the professor.

Feeling harassed, the student dialed 112 and claimed that she was being discriminated against due to belonging to a “different sect.” However, she later refused to file a written complaint against the professor and left the scene without speaking to the media.

Faculty Response

Following the incident, faculty members of the Arabic department collectively filed a complaint with the university’s proctor office. They alleged that the student frequently displayed a disrespectful attitude, regularly challenging faculty members over various departmental issues, from lecture conduct to facility conditions.

Prof. Islahi expressed hope that the university would take disciplinary action, citing her indiscipline. Another faculty member mentioned that the student often questioned teachers’ punctuality and criticized department facilities, including washrooms and course material.

Proctor’s Statement

Proctor Rakesh Dwivedi described the matter as sensitive, suggesting that the student might benefit from counseling. He confirmed that the psychology department had been approached to provide assistance.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining discipline within educational institutions while ensuring student concerns are addressed appropriately.
