Ex-Navy Man Killed by Wife and Son, Body Dismembered in Baruipur
A shocking murder case has surfaced in Baruipur, around 40 km from Kolkata, where a 50-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son were arrested for allegedly killing her husband and chopping his body into six parts before disposing of them.
Murder Over Family Dispute
According to the police, 55-year-old Ujjawal Chakraborty was murdered by his wife, Shyamali Chakraborty, and son, Raju Chakraborty, on the evening of November 14. The fatal altercation reportedly began over a dispute regarding Rs 3,000 for the son’s examination fees.
“Our investigation suggests that Ujjawal was an alcoholic and often assaulted his son. On November 14, during a heated argument, Raju attacked his father and, in a fit of rage, strangled him,” said the Superintendent of Police.
Raju was a polytechnic student from ITI and was searching for a job at the time of the incident.
Discovery of the Body Parts
Two days later, on November 17, body parts began floating in a nearby pond, leading to the investigation. The victim’s head was found wrapped in a plastic bag from a well-known garment shop, which helped the police trace the victim’s locality.
“The mother and son became suspects when they filed a missing person report at an unusual hour in the early morning of November 15. Even after the victim’s identity was confirmed, they insisted he was killed by an outsider due to his drinking habits and frequent fights. However, after intense questioning, they confessed to the murder and the gruesome act of dismembering the body,” said a police officer.
Disposal of the Body Parts
So far, the police have recovered four of the six body parts, including the head, waist, and two legs. The hands are yet to be found, as the son disposed of them in a nearby pond and bushes. Police reports indicate that the body parts were wrapped in plastic bags and transported using a bicycle. Raju made at least six trips within a 500-meter radius to dispose of the remains in Khas Mallick and Dehimedan Malla areas.
By 3 AM, after disposing of the body parts, the mother and son went to the police station and filed a missing person report, claiming Ujjawal, who worked as a security guard, had not returned home.
Legal Proceedings
The accused were presented in court on Sunday, where they were remanded to 12-day police custody. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for the missing body parts and gather further evidence in the case.
