Woman Arrested for Extortion Attempt on Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde

Woman Arrested for Extorting ₹10 Crore from Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde

Mumbai Police have arrested Renu Sharma, 40, for allegedly attempting to extort ₹10 crore from Maharashtra Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde. The arrest follows accusations that Sharma threatened to accuse Munde of rape if her demands were not met.

An FIR was lodged at the Malabar Hill police station based on a complaint from Munde, after which Mumbai’s crime branch took over the investigation. Renu Sharma was apprehended in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on April 20 and brought to Mumbai on a transit remand following her court appearance in Indore.

Police revealed that Renu Sharma demanded ₹5 crore in cash, a shop worth ₹5 crore, and luxury items such as mobile phones from the minister. Initially, Munde provided her with ₹3 lakh and a mobile phone worth ₹1.42 lakh. However, he contacted the authorities when her demands persisted.

The case gained additional attention as Renu Sharma is the sister of Karuna Sharma, who previously claimed to be Dhananjay Munde’s second wife. Investigations into the extortion attempt are ongoing.

This incident underscores the importance of addressing extortion threats and ensuring justice is upheld in high-profile cases.
