Gurugram Woman Arrested for False Rape Accusation and Extortion

A woman in Gurugram was arrested for falsely accusing a man of rape and trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from him in exchange for dropping the charges. The incident came to light after both the man and the woman filed complaints at the Gurugram Sector 40 police station.

According to the police, the two met at a hotel in South City 1 on April 13, introduced by a mutual friend. They spent several hours together in the hotel room after the friend left. The following day, the woman approached the police and claimed that she had been raped by the man.

Shortly after her complaint, the man also approached the police and accused the woman of demanding Rs 10 lakh to withdraw the rape complaint. Upon receiving complaints from both parties, the police provided the man with a mobile phone to record his conversations with the woman.

After reviewing the call recordings, the police confirmed that the woman had indeed demanded money from the man in return for withdrawing her allegations. Following this, the police filed a case against the woman under Section 389 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with extortion by threatening someone with a criminal accusation.

An investigation into the matter led to her arrest, and the case is now being processed by the local authorities. The incident highlights the importance of thorough investigations in cases of serious accusations like rape, as well as the misuse of legal provisions for personal gain.
