A female student from Lucknow University’s MA (Arabic) program caused a stir when she called the police after being denied entry into her class for arriving late. The incident occurred when the student attempted to join a lecture mid-session, but Professor Aslam Islahi, following his usual practice, asked her to leave the classroom due to her late arrival.
The student, instead of leaving, argued with the professor, leading to a heated exchange. She then dialed 112, the emergency police number, accusing the teacher of harassment. She also claimed that the professor was biased against her because she belonged to a “different sect.”
Although the student called the police, she declined to file a formal written complaint against the professor. After the incident, she left the scene and refused to speak with the media.
Following the confrontation, the teachers of the Arabic department collectively filed a complaint with the university’s proctor office, stating that the student had been difficult and disrespectful towards faculty members. Professor Islahi remarked, “We expect the university administration to take action against her for indiscipline.”
Another faculty member added that the student often criticizes the department, pointing out issues with everything from the syllabus to the condition of the washrooms. She even reprimands professors if they are a few minutes late to class.
Proctor Rakesh Dwivedi acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation, stating that the student may require counseling. He added that the university had requested assistance from the psychology department to help the student with her behavior.
