A complaint has been lodged against Supreme Court Justice DY Chandrachud by R.K. Pathan, who claims to be the President of the Supreme Court & High Court Litigants Association of India. The complaint, submitted to the President of India, also names Justice Chandrachud’s son, Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, as an accused.
According to the complaint, Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud is representing Sagar Suryavanshi and Sheetal Tejwani, who are allegedly involved in an extortion case in Pune (FIR No. 806 of 2019). The complainant alleges that when their extortion plan failed, a conspiracy was hatched to pressure petitioners and the High Court. The complaint claims this was done through a bogus petition filed by Anita K. Chavan in the Supreme Court (SLP [Crl.] No. 9131 of 2021).
On November 29, 2021, the matter was reportedly heard by a bench including Justice DY Chandrachud. The complaint alleges that Justice Chandrachud, without hearing the counsel for the state or notifying other parties, passed an illegal order favoring his son’s client. The complainant asserts that Justice Chandrachud should have been disqualified from hearing any case involving his son and claims the judge’s actions are offenses under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (166, 219, 409, 120[B], and others).
Further, the complaint accuses Justice Chandrachud of passing orders that benefited vaccine companies during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to wrongful profits.
The complainant seeks the registration of an FIR, as well as directions for investigations by several authorities, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Income Tax Department, and Intelligence Bureau. The complaint also demands that Chief Justice U.U. Lalit not recommend Justice Chandrachud for the position of Chief Justice of India.
