Recently, Agra police arrested a woman and three lawyers for allegedly extorting money from a man by filing a fake rape case against him. They reportedly lodged a false rape complaint and extorted ₹5 lakh from the man.
Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar stated that on June 24, a woman filed a complaint at Hari Parvat police station, claiming she was raped by Rahul Kumar. According to the woman, Rahul called her to a hotel under the pretense of attending a birthday party. Once there, she alleged that she was given an intoxicant, and Rahul took obscene photos and videos of her. The woman also claimed that Rahul and his family members threatened her.
“A case was registered at Hari Parvat police station under sections 376, 504, 506, and 328 of the Indian Penal Code against Rahul and his family based on the woman’s complaint,” SP Vikas Kumar said. Arvind Singh, the officer in charge of the police station, led the investigation. SP Kumar further added, “Sub-Inspector Neelam, part of the investigative team, found evidence that proved the rape case was fake.”
During the investigation, it was discovered that lawyers from both the alleged victim’s and the accused’s sides were involved in the extortion. Based on these findings, a new case was registered at Hari Parvat police station against the woman who made the false rape complaint and three lawyers identified as Jitendra Rajput, Nishant Kumar, and Shekhar Pratap Singh. Two other lawyers, including a female lawyer, are also being investigated and efforts are ongoing to arrest them.
The woman and her lawyer have been arrested, but Rahul’s lawyer, identified as Avnindra Vaishya, is still at large. The police have recovered ₹3.75 lakh in cash from the arrested individuals.
SP City Agra confirmed that a case was registered under sections 388, 384, 420, 182, and 195 of the Indian Penal Code for filing a false case and extortion. Inspector Arvind Kumar of Hari Parvat police station reported that the four accused, including the woman and three lawyers, were presented in court and have been sent to jail.
