Man Driven to Suicide by In-Laws’ Harassment Over House Purchase

A man from Narol, Ahmedabad, committed suicide due to alleged torture and harassment by his in-laws, who pressured him to buy a house. The deceased man’s father has filed a complaint against five members of his son’s in-laws, including the son’s wife.

The complaint states that the man’s in-laws were constantly pressuring him to purchase a house. The son, Vipan, ultimately took his own life by consuming a poisonous substance. The complaint was lodged by the deceased’s father, Vasdev Khali Ram Sharma, 65, a resident of Haryana. He filed the complaint at Narol Police Station, naming five family members, including Vipan’s wife and father-in-law.

Vipan got married in 2013 and lived in Om Shantinagar-2, Narol, Ahmedabad, working in a textile factory. According to his father, Vipan was under immense pressure from his in-laws to borrow money to buy a house and was also subjected to physical abuse. Unable to bear the torture any longer, Vipan ended his life.

The Narol Police have registered a case against the in-laws under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 114 (abettor present when the offense is committed). The investigation is ongoing.
