YouTuber Arrested for Extorting ₹80 Lakh by Threatening False Rape Allegation

A 22-year-old YouTuber from Delhi was arrested on Monday night for allegedly extorting ₹80 lakh from a man by threatening to falsely accuse him of rape. The woman’s husband, who was also involved in the crime, is currently on the run, according to police.

A 21-year-old man from Gurugram filed a complaint at the Sector 50 police station on August 22. The complaint detailed how the YouTuber and her husband extorted money from him. They used the money to purchase jewelry worth more than ₹10 lakh and expensive household appliances. While the police have recovered the appliances, they are still searching for the jewelry.

The 21-year-old complainant had returned from working in Dubai and started an advertising firm in Gurugram. He met the YouTuber at a five-star hotel in Sector 49 last year, intending to use her YouTube channel for advertising.

In December, the YouTuber and her husband invited him to a party, got him drunk, and took him to a hotel. The next morning, the YouTuber threatened to implicate him in a rape case unless he paid her money. This extortion continued until he had paid a total of ₹80 lakh.

The case came to light when the man withdrew ₹5 lakh from his father’s bank account after exhausting his share of the property sale money. His family questioned him, leading him to disclose the blackmail. His father then took him to the police to file a complaint.

Despite being served notices to join the investigation, the couple did not cooperate with the police and filed for anticipatory bail in a Gurugram court, which was rejected on November 18.

An FIR was registered on November 24 under sections 34 (common intention), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of offence punishable with death, life or 10 years), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
