Woman Walks Free After Stabbing Man, Court Rules She Had Psychotic Episode

Alisha Oakley, 23, was allowed to walk free after a UK court ruled she was experiencing a psychotic episode when she stabbed a man named Reece Tyler in the back of the head.

The incident happened at a party in October 2018 where Oakley, Tyler, and friends were drinking vodka. Oakley tried to kiss Tyler, but he refused and later went to sleep in another room with a different woman. After being rejected, Oakley stabbed Tyler with a knife.

Tyler was rushed to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent. He was treated with surgical glue for a head wound. Thankfully, the knife missed his brain by just 2 centimeters.

Canterbury Crown Court sentenced Oakley to two years in jail but suspended the sentence for 18 months after she pleaded guilty to wounding with intent. The court also ordered her to complete six months of drug rehabilitation. No compensation was awarded to Tyler because Oakley cannot pay, though she was fined £140.

Tyler called the sentence “too lenient” and expressed worry that he might be harmed again for rejecting someone. He said, “I’m lucky to be alive. The attack could have caused brain damage or worse. I now feel anxious around women and it has affected my relationship with my daughter and my work.”

Psychiatric reports showed that Oakley was diagnosed with emotional instability disorder and was having a psychotic episode during the attack. Her lawyer explained that Oakley has not reoffended and is receiving antipsychotic medication.

The lawyer also asked the court to consider Oakley’s clean record, mental health issues, family support, and court delays when deciding the sentence.

After the hearing, Tyler said the punishment was not strong enough and that he felt justice was not served. He shared how the trauma has caused him anxiety, affecting both his personal and work life.

Oakley’s sentence was suspended, and she walked free from court on Wednesday.
