A shocking incident occurred in Kanpur’s Cooperganj area, where a woman threw acid on her husband after a heated argument over her coming home late. The altercation took place on a Saturday night and led to her husband, Dabbu Gupta, being hospitalized with severe injuries to his face.
According to the police, the argument began when Dabbu (40) questioned his wife, Poonam (35), about why she returned home around 12:30 a.m. Poonam reportedly became enraged and started fighting with her husband. In a fit of anger, she grabbed a bottle of acid from the bathroom and threw it on Dabbu’s face.
Dabbu, now receiving treatment at Ursala Hospital, gave a statement saying that the couple had engaged in a physical altercation before the acid attack. Poonam allegedly attacked him after he questioned her, and Dabbu responded by striking her back. This, according to the police, further provoked Poonam, leading to the acid attack.
Locals who were questioned by police revealed that Dabbu has a history of alcohol addiction. They suggested that his drinking habits often led to domestic disputes between the couple. Some neighbors believe that Poonam’s extreme actions were driven by her frustration over his behavior.
A case has been registered at the Collector Ganj police station, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
