The Delhi Police have arrested a woman, Poonam, and her son, Deepak, for allegedly murdering her husband, Anjan Das, and dismembering his body. The horrifying incident took place in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar, where the duo cut the body into 22 pieces, stored them in a fridge, and disposed of them over several nights across the neighborhood.
Poonam suspected her husband of having an extramarital affair, which led to the crime. The gruesome discovery came to light when the first body parts were found in June in Pandav Nagar. However, the investigation hit a roadblock due to the advanced decomposition of the remains.
Initially, police even considered whether the remains could belong to Shraddha Walkar, the victim of a high-profile murder case earlier this month. However, further investigation revealed that the remains belonged to Anjan Das, who had been missing for about six months.
Police said Poonam and Deepak spiked Anjan’s drink with sleeping pills, and after he became unconscious, they killed him. Deepak then dismembered the body while Poonam helped dispose of it. CCTV footage showed the mother and son making multiple trips at night, carrying bags with the body parts, and dumping them in different locations around the neighborhood.
The footage also showed them making similar trips during the daytime, which further raised suspicion. It was only after the police connected Anjan’s disappearance with the missing body parts that they uncovered the full extent of the crime.
Further details about the case are still awaited as the investigation continues.
