A 29-year-old woman from Shivamogga, Karnataka, has filed a police complaint against her husband, accusing him of being gay and subjecting her to domestic violence under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complaint was lodged at the Jnanabharathi police station, where the husband was also booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention).
The couple had been married since 2020, and the woman became suspicious when they failed to conceive after two years of marriage. Despite her concerns, her husband avoided physical intimacy and insisted she undergo medical tests without revealing his own sexual orientation.
She recounted, “I approached him for intimacy, but he kept giving unreasonable excuses. When questions about our compatibility arose, he made me undergo medical tests without ever admitting the truth about his sexuality.”
The couple even tried In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), but when it failed, the woman grew more suspicious. She later discovered through her husband’s social media accounts that he was gay. Upon confronting him, he allegedly assaulted her, leading her to return to her parents’ home. The woman also stated that her husband and his family made several attempts to reconcile with her, but she refused. Additionally, she claimed that her husband threatened to commit suicide.
The case sheds light on the complexities of relationships and underscores the importance of transparency and trust in a marriage. The woman is seeking justice under the law for the betrayal and emotional distress she endured.
